Presenter Bios:
David Cowen, Vice President in CRA’s Forensic Services Practice based in Plano, Texas.
David joins CRA with over 25 years of digital forensics, information security, and cyber incident response experience – helping clients identify and protect their most valuable information and responding to allegations of trade secret theft and cyber incidents. He has extensive experience testifying since 2002 on behalf of plaintiffs and defendants on theft of trade secret cases and on a range of other digital forensic subjects including software piracy, insider trading, and electronic document authenticity issues. Prior to joining CRA, David co-founded and led a digital forensics and cyber incident response consulting business for over 14 years until he and his colleagues were acquired by a Big Four accounting firm. For the past three years, David served as a leader within that firm’s cyber incident response practice, where he led the response to one of most massive and consequential cyber breaches in history, which resulted in sanctions being imposed by the US government on numerous foreign intelligence officials. David is a recognized thought leader; a frequently requested speaker; an author of numerous articles, white papers, and five books on digital forensics; and a SANS-certified instructor. David is the lead author of the SANS FOR509: Enterprise Cloud Forensics class. David is the host of The Forensic Lunch, a popular digital forensics and incident response podcast and live YouTube show. David holds a patent in Digital Forensics for NTFS File system journaling forensics. He is a seven-time Forensic 4cast award winner for Digital Forensic Article of the Year, Digital Forensic Show of the Year, and Digital Forensic Blog of the Year. David has just completed his 16th year as the red team leader for the National Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition. David holds a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Texas at Dallas, as well as the CCP, CISSP, CCFP, GCFE, and ACE certifications.
Adam Hart, Vice President serves as an expert witness and provides digital forensics and incident response services to clients for high-profile cybercrime and data breach investigations. An expert in the field of digital forensics, Adam has extensive experience assisting clients and attorneys with complex investigations by helping them make informed decisions on information security incidents. Adam has over 18 years of specialized training and experience with investigations involving the analysis of computers, servers, email accounts, network devices, mobile devices, GPS devices, vehicle infotainment systems, cloud storage, social media accounts and malware. As a former detective and Special US Marshal assigned to the US Secret Service Electronic Crimes Task Force (ECTF), Adam managed numerous complex criminal investigations involving digital evidence and cybercrime. He has extensive experience testifying as both a fact witness and an expert witness in the area of digital forensics in state and federal courts. He has also conducted numerous training classes in digital forensics, incident response, and social media investigations for law enforcement, attorneys, insurance investigators, and corporate clients. Adam received his Master of Forensic Science from George Washington University. He is a Certified Forensic Computer Examiner (CFCE), GIAC Reverse Engineer Malware (GREM) analyst, GIAC Cyber Threat Intelligence (GCTI) analyst, Certified Digital Forensic Examiner (CDFE), Cellebrite Certified Mobile Examiner (CCME), Magnet Certified Forensic Examiner (MCFE), and a Blacklight Certified Examiner.
Kaya Overholtzer, Associate in the Forensic Services Practice of CRA, where she assists clients and their counsel in independently investigating cases involving cybersecurity incidents, insider threats, and wrongful death. She previously worked for The Leahy Center, a digital forensics laboratory where she led mobile device research into Huawei’s HarmonyOS, counterfeit iPhones, and Apple iOS security. She has developed specialized knowledge in hardware, amassing nine years of professional repair experience as well as multiple certifications related to hardware for consumer and evidentiary purposes.
